Advocacy
Support the Library and the Community
Friends advocates on behalf of the library. We cannot advocate for individual candidates given our 501(c) 3 status but do campaign for issues related to the library.
Recently, Friends of the Prescott Public Library endorsed a sales tax initiative and began an ad campaign in The Daily Courier to support its passage. Both hard copy and online ads ran for two months before the election.
Two months after the successful passage of the tax, the mayor and city council added funding allowing the library to re-open on Sundays.
Books for Arizona Correctional Facilities
A Friends board member determined that the prisons in Arizona lacked sufficient appropriate reading material for inmates. As one inmate put it, “I am tired of reading the same book ten times.” Friends worked with volunteers of the Prescott Public Library to collect over fifty boxes of books which were then delivered to Arizona Correctional Facilities. Friends will continue to work to provide much-needed reading material on a regular basis to these facilities.

Prescott Lakes Parkway School
Once a month a library representative is able to go to the Prescott Lakes Parkway School and give a book presentation to the students there.
The Prescott Lakes Parkway School is a division of the Yavapai County Education Service Agency, providing education services to detained youth in Yavapai County.
Books to Kabul
Recently, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University conducted a book drive for the libraries in Kabul, Afghanistan. The Friends provided more than 400 books to resupply reading material for libraries which had been destroyed.
